David Azcue is a Partner in Simpson Thacher’s Tokyo office, where he co-heads the Private Funds Practice in Japan. Fluent in Japanese and having spent over 35 years in Japan, David advises clients on all aspects of fundraising, investments, financing and operations across a broad range of asset classes and strategies. Working with domestic legal counsel and tax advisors, he has helped pioneer many of the structures used by Japan-focused private fund sponsors to permit non-Japanese investors to invest alongside Japanese investors in Japan-focused funds. In the summer of 2011, he transitioned to Paris and joined the newly formed GSCS team, focusing primarily on structuring capital call facilities for infrastructure PE funds while also gaining exposure to asset-backed securitization. In 2013, Benjamin moved to the syndicate team in Paris, where he worked on project, infrastructure, and export financings for the EMEA region.
