During the period, he was seconded to Ireland office from 2008 to 2009. And Hiroyuki joined Deloitte’s Japan member firm in 2019. Hiroyuki has over 20 years considerable experience in Japanese and international tax advisory on financial transactions, fund structures, including investment by sovereign investors.

David Azcue is a Partner in Simpson Thacher’s Tokyo office, where he co-heads the Private Funds Practice in Japan. Fluent in Japanese and having spent over 35 years in Japan, David advises clients on all aspects of fundraising, investments, financing and operations across a broad range of asset classes and strategies. Working with domestic legal counsel and tax advisors, he has helped pioneer many of the structures used by Japan-focused private fund sponsors to permit non-Japanese investors to invest alongside Japanese investors in Japan-focused funds. Working with his Credit colleagues, he has also worked on the first subscription facilities for Japan-focused private funds open to international investors. He has worked on many of the market-defining fundraises and funds-related transactions over his almost two decades of practice in Japan.

Fi is Managing Director, Head of Fund Finance APAC at MUFG Investor Services. She is a familiar face of the fund finance community globally having supported the growth of this sector for over a decade across the US, Europe, Middle East and Asia markets. She was recognized in The Drawdown’s ‘MOST INFLUENTIAL FUND FINANCE EXPERTS OF 2022’ globally. Fi pioneered the global trend of ESG-linked fund finance facilities when she led the world’s first ESG-linked subscription credit facility in 2019, marrying the sustainability-linked loan technology at individual company or asset level, to a portfolio framework that can be applied to Private capital funds even at the beginning stage of their lifecycle. She moved to Asia with ING Bank from Barclays London in 2018 to build out the fund and insurance finance businesses in Asia Pacific before joining Citi to oversee the then Asia’s largest fund finance portfolio in terms of AUM. Prior to that, she helped build a successful Private Equity coverage franchise supporting financial sponsors and alternative asset managers in EMEA and the U.S. for Barclays, based in London, as Director in the Financial Institutions Group. Fi serves on the APAC Executive Committee of the Fund Finance Association and the Singapore Venture & Private Capital Association (SVCA) Fund Operations and Digital Transformation Committee, and is also co-chair of Women in Fund Finance APAC.

Makiko Harunari is the Head of Simpson Thacher’s Asia Banking and Credit Practice. Takafumi Ihara is the Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer – Chief Executive of the Asset Management & Investor Services Business Unit at Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking Corporation (MUTB) since April 2024. Over the past two years, as a Deputy Chief Executive of Asset Management & Investor Services Business Unit and Business Head of Investor Services Business, Mr. Ihara was responsible for overseeing both domestic and international Investor Service businesses. Moreover, he expanded the Investor Services Banking businesses including Fund Financing. He also led the successful acquisition of Link Administration Holdings Limited, which was publicly disclosed in December 2023. Mr. Ihara joined MUTB in 1990. He has extensive experience in a wide range of global areas, including fixed income trading and sales, market risk management, product development, and establishing frameworks for the expansion of overseas businesses. In 2013 he was appointed as the CEO of Mitsubishi UFJ Fund Services Ltd., the first overseas subsidiary acquired and fully owned by MUTB, where he focused on enhancement of corporate governance and business expansion while driving several additional M&A acquisitions. In 2018, as an Executive Officer and General Manager of London branch, he achieved substantial growth of Investor Service businesses through the launches of new initiatives such as Fund Financing and Security Lending. He has approximately 15 years of experience working in overseas branches and subsidiaries. Susumu Koguchi is Co-Head of Fund Finance at Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, Ltd. (SuMi TRUST) within the New York Branch Fund Finance Department. Mr. Koguchi has led the expansion of the Fund Finance business within SuMi TRUST and since he joined the team the portfolio of Fund Finance has been increased by over ten times. Mr. Koguchi has extensive knowledge in various asset classes including Collateralized Loan Obligations, Subscription Finance, NAV Finance, Middle Market Senior Leverage Facilities and other Structured Finances such as Real Estate Finance and Aircraft Finance. Given SuMi TRUST’s unique position as investor, lender and asset manager within the alternative investment universe, Mr. Koguchi acts as liaison between London, Singapore and New York by leveraging relationships and knowledge within the SuMi TRUST global network.

Before joining SuMi TRUST in 2016, Mr. Koguchi spent 15 years at Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation in various roles, including Fund Finance in New York, Lease Finance based in Structured Finance Dept in Tokyo and Corporate Banking in Osaka. Mr. Koguchi graduated from University of Kobe, Bachelor of Technology.
